CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500
CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - Sometimes, it's okay to get silver.
Overview: when it comes to the domestic pickup truck, Ricky Bobby's life mantra "If you're not first, you're last" need not apply. Along with brothers GMC Sierra that is a bit more suave, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 seems constantly pursuing the Ford F-series, which has already topped sales for decades. Although less shaking segment of new features such as a turbocharged engine or aluminum body construction, Chevrolet has locked up second place in the race. But if the GMC and Chevy sales combined, General Motors really sell more pickups than Ford in most years. This pickup is definitely not a loser first and well worth seeing.
Silverado starts with regular options (two-door), doubles (four-door), or crew cab configuration (actually a large four-door), all of which can be ordered with a rear wheel or driving. Regular taxis are available with 6.5-foot or 8.0-foot box, the double cab is restricted to freight 6.5 ft bed, and the crew cab offers a box of 6.5 5.8 and walk-away. Trim levels include the WT (work truck), LS, LT, LTZ, Custom, and Highlands. The power comes from one of the three machines: 285-hp 2.7-liter V-6, 355-hp 5.3 liter V-8, V-8 or the 6.2-liter 420-hp. All wear EcoTec 3 active fuel management and label, which means they shut down cylinders at times for maximum fuel economy. 4.3-liter and 5.4-liter engine is equipped with six-speed automatic transmission, while the eight-speed automatic optional with factory 5.3 litres and with a standard 6.2-liter engine.
2-wheel-drive double-cab or crew-cab Silverados offer up to 12.500 pounds of towing, with a rear-drive regular cab capable of pulling up to 9800 pounds. The rear-drive double cab offers maximum payloads 2250 pounds, while the crew cab is good for regular taxis and 2180 two-wheel-drive can handle pound 1980 - so the truck "half ton" is generally able to tote a ton or better. The model we drove to this review are the Silverado LTZ Z71 crew cab 4 x 4 with the cargo box shorter V-8 and 6.8-liter; List price is $58.565.
What's New: the seventh generation of trucks (dating to 1960 when the Silverado the first name appearing as a trim level on the C/K pickup) was all-new in 2014 and fresh last year. In addition to juggling multiple colors of paint and interior combo Jet Black and ash grey medium new in High Country, changes to 2017 are mostly in technology deployment.
The camera glass now standard for models LT, Android automatically available for the first time (merged with Apple CarPlay, coming in 2016), and Teen Driver mode standard allows owners keep an eye on the behavior of other drivers using trucks. High Country package of top-of-the-line has added standard equipment: the heat, the steering wheel wrapped in leather; pedal Power-adjusted; and enhanced Driver alert packages, which include forward-collision warning, lane keeping assist, low-speed automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and seat vibrates if the vehicle is in danger of crashing.
Small upgrade including a towing capacity of 12,000 hit a pound for pound 12.500 on truck V-8 comes with a 6.2-liter, as well as all-terrain Tires P265/65R -18 recently offered as an option on 1 trim.
What we like: coming into his own eyes like a young b. Michael Jordan who went from Wallace in The Wire Adonis Johnson in the Creed, has a new element 1500 masculinity. The lights are slimmer and perforated lamp run from frontal restyling 2016 's give Silverado square face talent while maintaining a macho face expected pickup. Side view of the muscles associated with the wheel arches, angles may have been inspired by excavating. It certainly looks the part of the truck.
In relation to physical maturity comes a surprising poise on the road. Rose gentle movement, quiet cabin, the residents did not sway and bounce all over as they did in the old days, and the controls are not too complicated. Infotainment system even very easy and responsive.
Although 1500 hews to the classical formula for the segment, bit of luxury and modern technology has seeped in. Options include heated seats and heated steering wheel, ventilation, power-adjustable pedals, 8.0-inch touchscreen display running Chevy's MyLink infotainment system (7.0-inch standard screen), many plugs (USB, DC 12 volt, 110-volt AC), 4 g LTE connectivity Wi-Fi, and wireless phone charging. It sounds more like a luxury sedan than a work truck.
Off line, 1500 with a 5.7-liter V-8 is one of the fastest of its kind. Stop the long distance, but the braking performance is still among the better half-ton pickup.
What we don't like: the Silverado suffered the misery of ordinary days this greatness, overcapable full-size pickups, from maneuvering in tight quarters is awkward for the shortcomings of the leaf sprung rear axle over rough pavement. Although axle hop and marching sideways very well controlled as compared to the previous generation, the coil or air-sprung up five-link suspension-Ram just to ride and handle better.
Competitors offer more fuel-efficient option or increase the power, like Ford's EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 and Ram EcoDiesel. Silverado stick with naturally aspirated engine gasoline engines that can shut off half of their cylinders. (In California, GM also offers hybrid eAssist, though they are being sold in a very low amount.) With 285 horsepower, 305 lb-ft of torque, and 18 City/24 mpg highway rating, V-6 Silverado - Chevrolet's most efficient offerings - have lower power or fuel economy is worse than the equivalent Ford or RAM.
Seat comfort is not enough to ride again. While simplicity is good for control, interior design goes too far in that direction; It could be plain and boring, and none of the materials are very enjoyable to see or touch. Silverado's spacious, but imaginative interior design.
As mentioned, the low-speed automatic braking is available in the Silverado, but the pickups didn't offer adaptive cruise control or engine start stop system such as the F-150 does not. Some might expect those features at a price close to $60,000.
Small disturbances: holders of a cellphone in the center console is a nice touch, but the device has to be put aside for the purpose, which eliminates the costs of the holder when using an application that does not automatically play. And while there's plenty of electrical outlets, they are mostly at the front: rear seating area has no USB port and AC outlet.
The verdict: what you see is what you get, but it has more subtle than you might expect.
